constipation remedyAlthough there are many chemical laxatives in drug stores used to cure constipation, most people go for a natural constipation remedy. Over-the-counter drugs are also available for treating the condition. These are, however, associated with some side effects. Here are some home remedies you may want to consider.

Fruits and Vegetables
Mangoes, figs, pears, oranges, papaya, and other fruits, and vegetables such as, peas, carrots, sweet potatoes and green vegetables provide fiber and roughage that assist in digestion. Another source of roughage is guava. This in turn enhances bowel movements as the mass of the stool will be higher.

This is also another great constipation remedy. It has high content of potassium which promotes muscle contractions of the stomach intestines, thus increasing peristalsis.

Milk of Magnesia
It’s also called magnesium hydroxide and is taken orally. This hydroxide compound mixes with the hydrochloric acid formed in the stomach to neutralize each other. By neutralizing, the condition of the stomach is pacified. However, this should be taken after consulting a medical specialist since it can have side effects.

Lemon Water
Lemon water provides vitamin C which boosts the body’s immune system. This enables the body to fight any illness that may lead to constipation. Extract the juice from lemons by squeezing it. Add warm water to the juice and then sip it to cure constipation.

Aloe Vera Juice
The juice of Aloe Vera is also a natural constipation remedy. It enhances bowel movements. Consume this juice for 10 days, with a 2 day break in between. For chronic constipation victims, it should be consumed till it disappears.

Spinach Juice
Raw spinach has an organic material which is capable of relieving intestinal tract problems. It cleanses the truck thus allowing easy movement of food. Spinach juice is prepared by washing the spinach leaves properly and then blending it. Since it is a paste, an equal amount of water is added to it and then stirred well and you have your constipation remedy.

Prune Juice
Prune juice is a natural laxative which breaks down the body sugars. Through this, fluids are drawn into the intestines. The fluid makes the stool much softer and facilitates bowel movements.

Flax Seeds
Flax seeds are high in fiber and also contain omega-3 fatty acids. Once consumed, they soften the stool and cleanse the colon, hence cure constipation. These seeds can be added to the salad or mixed with cereal for consumption.

Dried Figs
Figs equally have laxative properties which make it an effective constipation remedy. Eat a minimum of 2-3 dried figs daily. They can also be soaked and then consumed with water.

Drink lots of Water
Your body extracts water in large amounts from the tracts of the intestines if it does not receive enough water daily. This makes the bowels hard and dry, leading to constipation. To ensure that your stool is soft, drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water daily. If this is hard for you, then incorporate diluted fruit juices or vegetable juices into your meals. This is one of the simplest yet effective constipation remedy.
